The W3C is working to formalize a language of emotional states for computers.  This would include more complex emoticons for human-to-human interaction as well as more human-like interaction capabilities for computers.  Hopefully this means that some day our computers may be more friendly, literally.

Ruby on Rails 3 Pulls Into the Station
The final release of Rails 3.0 is here now, completing the merger of Merb and Rails frameworks.  More than 1600 contributors submitted code to the project.  Rails 3 requires Ruby 1.8.7 or 1.9.2.  It can also be used with JRuby 1.5.2.

Twitter Closes Basic Auth for 3rd Parties
Today, Twitter will no longer allow third party applications or sites to access your Twitter account with just a username and password.  All 3rd party authorization must now take place via OAuth.  This allows third parties to access your information while keeping your credentials safe.  

Chromium Harnesses the GPU
The Chromium developers finally have the WebGL and 3D CSS transform support using ANGLE (Almost Native Graphics Layer Engine) to start accelerating content in the browser with the GPU.  By compositing layers on the GPU, the acceleration of the CPU is not negated.  You can have a look at the design doc to learn more.
